NKUST MARITIME TRAINING CENTER

About Maritime Training Center (MTC) - Origin
Our history: Merchantman Seafarer Training Center (MSTC) was founded in September 1980 by National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) in view of national maritime policies and seafarer training plans in response to the introduction of International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) in 1974 and the introduction of IMO International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW78) in 1978. MSTC was restructured into a first-level administrative division in August 2004; and renamed Merchantman Seafarer Training Center (MSTC) in February 2018 in view of the establishment of a new campus of NKUST.

To build an international maritime training institute, improve the image of NKUST as an international maritime training institute, and enable NKUST to embrace greater progress in domestic and international maritime training in the future, MSTC was officially renamed Maritime Training Center (MTC) from February 1, 2019, as approved by the university assembly on December 26, 2018.
