Cargo Handling Simulator(CHS)

Cargo Handling Simulator (CHS) is deployed by NKUST to improve the techniques of Class I and Class II seafarers, and in response to the requirements of Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW 78/95), to enable masters, Class I seafarers, and Class II seafarers in charge of cargo handling on tankers to better understand techniques and knowledge of tank operations and cargo handling, so as to protect the safety of navigation of Taiwan tankers and cargo handling.

 
The CHS was accepted on March 17, 2003, and can simulate different types of tankers, including oil tanker, Very Large Crude Carrier(VLCC), LNG carrier, LPG carrier, and chemical tanker. CHS can simulate cargo handling, tank cleaning, ballasting, and emergency scenarios and can calculate curve data, including stress, bending moment, and stability, of different types of tankers, to meet the requirements of STCW2010. The CHS is used for in-class operation and maritime training
 

 

CHS (four trainee workstations, one trainer workstation, and a briefing section)

The CHS consists of four trainee workstations, one trainer workstation, and one briefing section. The CHS with the software can simulate cargo handling process on various types of vessels, including chemical tanker, LCC, VLCC, LPG carrier, and LNG carrier. The software is provided by Nor control, a simulator company in Norway. The Cargo Oil Control (COC) software developed by Nor control is being widely applied on oil tankers. All functions of the system can fully present operations on oil tankers.

Trainer workstation

The trainer workstation provides a place for a trainer to control all operation processes, including instructing various simulation scenarios, monitoring operations on trainee workstations, and handling and announcing emergencies as a template for test evaluation.

Trainee workstation

Each of the four trainee workstations can accommodate two trainees for operation. Trainees can simulate various operations on ship, and can also use the voice function provided by the system. The trainer can also communicate with or make instructions to trainees using voice devices.

Briefing section

The briefing section can accommodate up to 30 trainees, and provides a tidy and comfortable environment which can meet routine training requirements. Operations at trainer and trainee workstations can be projected onto the screen with a HD projector, to improve teaching performance. Taking class or training in an environment with such advanced technologies will help trainees greatly improve their knowledge and skills.
